Home Tax Software Operation Article
This is a general guide, and not comprehensive.
First, get the client or preparer (not a taxpayer) on a screen share. Then, on their computer, launch the software and review each section in detail.
HOME PAGE
Return Tally
This keeps track of how many returns are in each status.
Release Notes
Periodically, we post information on changes to our Federal and state packages.
CHAT
Chat is our innovative support tool, active in the most current version of the software, through which a live representative can be reached.
CLIENTS
Returns can be accessed from the Home page through either the Client List graphic (in the center of the screen) or the Clients tab (in the upper left).
Clients are displayed by First and Last Name, SSN/EIN, Return Type, Return Status, Refund or amount Due, E-file status, Return ID (nLync’s preferred manner of referring to a return), and Preparer name.
“Return Summary” is in the lower left-hand corner. It’s where you can see feedback (acknowledgements, rejections, and errors) on a specific return.
Columns can be customized by right-clicking the blue field in the column description (the taxpayer “Name,” in this case) and selecting the options desired.
MANAGE
The Manage tab’s function is to work with settings for Users, Offices, Fees, etc.
SCHEDULER
This option is for booking and tracking appointments.

EARNED INCOME CREDIT
The documentation for the Due Diligence Checklist and the EIC Worksheet takes place on Form 8867.
As the 8867 was added by the software early in the return, you only need to access it on the Navigation pane. The form is listed at the lower left of the screenshot below:
Once all questions have been answered, the EIC will calculate. If it’s not calculating, check any references in red for information that needs to be entered:
ELECTRONIC FILING WORKSHEET
Form 8879 covers the final details of the return.
PRINTING
Printing is disabled in the demonstration (“demo”) version of the software.
There are two methods, both by selecting “Print” at the top of the screen…the first is located on the list of Clients, and the second inside the specific return:
